Powerful and easy to use on a superficial level August 31, 2010 Ianscarboro Powerful archive and initial development tool for digital photos. However be prepared to purchase a book for some of the more complex issues (noise reduction) as Adobe is not always intuitive to use. Also some irritating little bugs which will no doubt be ironed out in updates (I have just downloaded v3.2 today).
probably better than good August 19, 2010 T D (Darkest Worcestershire UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Probably better than good, when I learn to use it properly.
Glad I bought a book to go with it,(the Scott Kelby one).
Adobe has done a solid and assured job of making Lightroom even better to use. 4.5 out of 5 August 9, 2010 C. Watts (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the third version of Lightroom and Adobe has steadily improved an already outstanding workflow and photo editing program.
The new features include:
Superior Noise Reduction - it works brilliantly
Accelerated Performance - definitely improved
Lens Correction - limited number of lenses but you can create your own profile
Support for DSLR Video Files - a step in the right direction
Improved Online Publishing - keeping in touch with the online world
Image Watermarking - useful for some
Slide Shows With Music - simple but effective
Easy Image Importing - much needed improvement
Tethered Shooting - Only with Canon and Nikon cameras at present
Perspective Correction - first class
Film Grain Simulation - looks like real film grain
More Flexible Print Packages - great for the professional
Noise reduction is greatly improved. In the past, I used Lightroom for my workflow and near all image adjustments. But when it came to noise reduction, Lightroom just didn't cut it, so I had to use a separate noise reduction program. Now, I can dispense with the separate program for all but the most complex of images. In fact I only use Photoshop for specialist features. On a 64-bit machine, Lightroom 3 is certainly faster than its predecessor. It has a much snappier feel when editing and manipulating images. Adobe have done the sensible thing and worked on performance instead of unnecessary features.
On the subject of speed, the import feature works a lot faster too. Very helpful when you have hundreds of images on just one memory card, or you are cataloguing a back collection of images.
Image presets are brilliantly implemented in Lightroom. With version 3 you have an expanded collection and there are many third party choices too. Great for one stop alterations to your images. I use these regularly, with my favourites being Aged Photo and General Punch.
I have used Lightroom regularly for over a month and can confirm that the program is real improvement over the previous version. The speed enhancements are worth the upgrade alone.
All in all, Adobe has done a solid and assured job of making Lightroom even better to use. Now all that is needed are additional photo editing tools, seamless and faster integration with Photoshop and a wider range of lenses and cameras for lens correction and tethered shooting.
There is certainly room for Lightroom in any photographer's toolkit. Recommended 4.5/5
Guide to Lightroom 3 August 6, 2010 Amazon_buyer 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is an invaluable guide to the new Lightroom user. The well set out step-by-step guide leads the novice through various aspects of using the software. Each example is illustrated using the author's own pictures and the novice can follow each step of the operation using identical pictures that are specific to each chapter, downloaded from the author's website. It is well worth the investment.
Highly recommended July 15, 2010 ollimar71 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am new to Lightroom and extremely pleased that I bought the software. So far I have dabbled in the different modules and I am gradually getting to know the program with the help of "The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book" by Martin Evening. The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book: The Complete Guide for Photographers
I find the Develop and the Print modules to be very efficient and useful, and quite easy to get used to. The built-in creative developing presets are excellent. The Library module will take some more getting used to as there are so many options for organising my image files - sometimes it feels like I'm starting all over again. The Publish link to Flickr is a godsent.
The software runs smoothly on Windows 7 and I use Photoshop CS5 for external editing, so I haven't come across any conflicts.
I was also pleased with Amazon's delivery service.
