| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Amy MacDonald is that proverbial old head on young shoulders, a Scottish singer-songwriter who, despite her tender 19 years, writes songs with the grace, wisdom and proficiency of one with a score more on the clock. As influenced by The Libertines as any venerable old folk hand, the eleven songs on This Is the Life combine a traditional, acoustic folk-rock sound with a youthful spirit and self-assured lyrics that veer between the observational and the confessional. "Poison Prince" is a jagged guitar strut dedicated to some Doherty-like bad boy, a song every bit as pathos-laden as The Libertines at their doomed, romantic best with a closing treatise to find "An upbeat song/So we can dance the night away", while "Mr Rock & Roll" begins as a wryly withering jibe at some perennial party animals, but by the chorus, has softened into a subtle, touching tale of human coupling. MacDonald's age doesn't seem to have been an impediment; "Youth of Today", reportedly written when she was 15, is one of the better tracks here, while "Footballer's Wife" is a clear-headed attack on vapid Barbie Doll celebrity that suggests this girl is very much on the right track. "Rolling Stone, here I come, watch out everyone/I'm singing my song" she sings on "Let's Start a Band". Let that be a warning to you. --Louis Pattison

Amy Macdonald cd This is the life March 6, 2010 Colinbaker (uk) This has to be one of the best cd's I have ever bought
She has an amazing voice and songs well written ten out of ten
Great music February 21, 2010 K. Royle (Nottingham) The only true 'album' from this great singer/songwriter, which weeks after purchasing I'm still listening to. Unusually, I don't skip a single track - each one is melodic and passionate. I can't wait for the new album to arrive on Amazon...early indications from her website look promising.
I like rubbish music... February 10, 2010 Lieutenant C (Allover, UK) because it means I can compare it to flawless diamonds like this.
I've finally gotten around to buying this album and, boy, have I been missing out! This album is a polished piece of art. Whilst some of the tracks may seem a little repetitive, it is only the repeating of a well written chorus rather than loads of "whoa whoas" to fill in time. And no key changes to boost the endings.
There have been comments about Amy's "live" performances; not that they should figure in an album review. That said, having looked on the web, there is the rawness of an uncut diamond in her voice and style that provides the foundation for the studio work. Without this I think the production would have no integrity and the album no soul.
Where will Amy be in ten/twenty/thirty years? Who knows, but no doubt successful in whichever direction her career takes her. Previews of the new album suggest she will be writing and performing for many, many years to come. I certainly hope so!
Buy It - It's a Bargain December 28, 2009 Bob Arnold (Devon UK) Stuff the Xfactor, Amy's one of the best new young talents around. Every track is great - Not a single filler track on the album. Don't copy it - BUY IT - She deserves your support!
Magnificent Amy Macdonald !!! December 17, 2009 Geir Lillegraven (Stavanger, Norway) I bought this CD after listening to Amy MacDonald appearing on VH1 greatest hits. There was something with her voice and performance of the song that immediately attracted my interest. I bought the album based on this impression, and I have never regretted that.
I buy a lot of music, usually of established and well known artists. But this album is still one of my favorites that I have listened to for over a month. Best tracks are Mr. Rock & roll, This is the life and Poison Prince.
I am waiting for the number 2 album, this is usually the difficult one for every new artist.
