Got this to replace a rarely used bulky camcorder. I was very surprised how easy it was to set up & use, & the quality of picture. I found windows movie editing program better than the one supplied with the flip.

I bought this Flip as an easy option to take piccies of the g children, etc instead of carrying round the video camera - the first film I took I was able just to put the film straight onto a DVD. We have just been on a special holiday and took the flip instead of the video camera and wished we hadn't. I am now having trouble doing anything with this except look at it through the TV with the HDMI cable. In the Flipshare instructions it says create DVD and all it seems to do is save another set of piccies on the Flip! Just got my own flip - and it's fab!!
I have used these flip cameras at school, and recently edited together a 25 minute long DVD for a teacher that was retiring. It was so easy to use, all the kids in my class had a go at filming scenes. The footage playback is instant and clear to see, and does not blur with movement. (And trust me, when 9yr olds are given a camera to play with, there is loads of movement!) The kids even had a go at creating their own short movie by trimming their footage, adding a title and background music, so it is quite literally 'child's play'
I had a traditional camcorda, which is still sat at the bottom of my wardrobe in it's bag with it collection of battery chargers, film cassettes etc etc and a thick layer of dust. This Flip camera get's chucked in my bag and pulled out as quickly and as easily to use as my digital camera. Cannot fault it. Simple, basic, quality.
Small word of advice re editing, try to limit how many times you edit various footage shots together, as each time you do, you are editing a copy of a copy of a copy, and with each copy the footage slowly deteriates, as I discovered with my 25 min long DVD! This is not a fault of the flip canera or the software, and the footage is easily watchable. With hindsight I would have planned my editing better to limit the times I needed to edit things.
All in all a brilliant camera!

What lovely little camcorder. works extremely well and I am impressed. The quality of video is very good but would benefit from handshake reduction technology. Very easy to use and very practicle. I would recommend this as a 5* but for one thing. The software supplied with the product would not work properly on my laptops and pc's, (4 in all), on Windows 7. (All upgraded from Vista Home Premium SP2). I eventually tracked down version 5.6.35 on the U.S. support site which despite warnings that it was for U.S. only seems to work fine with my unit and pc's/laptops. I phoned support who could give me no reason not to use the U.S. software, so I guess it is the usual UK gets back end rip off service as with so many U.S. products. Having said that the support line was good and given I was patched through to the U.S. is not not bad value at 10p/min 24 hours a day.
The HD is good and at 30fps the video is smooth and clear. Works best with a direct link to HDMI socket on a TV or monitor. I'm not sure if Flip would thank me, but the 5.6.35 software is miles better than the software supplied with the UK version, (4.1 in my case), on the unit. I was warned not to uprade the frimware on the unit, but for me that was too late. However so far I have not encountered any problem. So a 5* product let down only by 1* for the software. If you are thinking of buying ... Go for it!
